Local Maps Marketing – with Google, Yahoo and Bing…

Does your local business currently show up in the maps sections on top of the Google, Bing or Yahoo search engines? If your business is not currently listed in these maps on the Internet and the mobile web, then it would probably be in your best interest to pay close attention to the following statistics so you can understand how vital a little strategy called “Local Maps Marketing” can be to the overall success of your local business…

  • According to Google, 73% of all searches are related to local content in one way or another.
  • While Internet purchases are rising, according to MIT Technology Review, for every dollar spent on the Internet, five are spent offline on products and services that were influenced by online research.
  • ComScore, the monster of all metrics for the Internet states that 43% of Internet users are searching for local merchants when considering making a purchase.
  • 52% of Internet users report that they have substituted search engines for the Yellow Pages.
  • 91% of U.S. Internet users do comparison shopping and research online and of that group 51% explicitly characterize themselves as “shop online, purchase offline”

And here’s the kicker… There are 5 billion plus cell phone users vs. only 1.8 billion Internet users on the planet and of these mobile users, 51 million use smart phones giving them the ability to find local business right on their mobile device.

for “Auto Insurance in Lake Worth”

As you can see, more and more people are looking for local services through their computers and their mobile devices and as a result, local maps marketing has quickly become one of the most powerful marketing techniques online for local businesses.

So if your business continues to spend lots of ad dollars that yield little return with Yellow Pages advertising or your business suffers from a lack of visibility, especially on the Internet, or your business is not getting enough highly targeted traffic, then leveraging a technique such as local maps should be a top priority for you and your business.

My local maps strategy is two fold: first we must get your maps listing optimized and positioned on the first page of the search engines and second we must maintain your maps listing positioned on the first page of the search engines with a comprehensive strategy to gather personal reviews for your business. And given the great opportunity available for any local business online as evidenced by the statistics stated above, it is even more important to establish a first page ranking on your industry keywords or phrases before your competition does.
